    ROOKIE forward Alwyn Aguirre finished with just eight points but five of it came in the last 69 seconds, towing the University of the Visayas Green Lancers to a 70-68 escape over the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars in the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Basketball tournament last Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum.

    This afternoon, two unbeaten powerhouse high school teams, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles and the University of the Visayas Baby Lancers will take a shot for solo leadership at 5:15 p.m., while the University of San Carlos Warriors will try to keep a strong grip of the second place when they face the University of Cebu Webmasters at 6:45 p.m. (READ MORE)

    THE University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) used its huge height advantage against the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats for a 73-59 first win in the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundaiton Inc. (Cesafi) Basketball Tournament held at the Cebu Coliseum Tuesday evening.

    Later at 6:45 p.m., last year’s finalists University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers and league leaders Southwestern University Cobras will take on each other after the juniors division match between the UV Baby Lancers and the Don Bosco Technological Center Greywolves at 5:15 p.m. (READ MORE)

    THE University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars mustered all the strength they have to defeat University of San Carlos in Game 2 by a hairline, 76-75, to stay afloat in their best-of-three series for 3rd place in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) Thursday night at the Cebu Coliseum.

    THE Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras secured a ticket to the finals after defeating the struggling University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars, 69-49, in the second round of the semifinals in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball Tuesday night at the Cebu Coliseum.

    The Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba-coached Cobras now hold a 4-0 win-loss record in the semis. This also means that even if they will lose in the remaining two matches, they are already secured to play in the best-of-five championship series. Read More

    FRESH from a defeat, the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers unleashed their wrath by routing University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars in their semifinal match, 70-37, Thursday afternoon in the college division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) at the Cebu Coliseum.

    The nine-time Cesafi champions, earlier, met a heart-breaking loss from the reigning champions Southwestern University Cobras, 68-66, during their semifinal match. Read More

    Tabaloc leads USJ-R to semis

    VETERAN forward Miguel Tabaloc did not disappoint the hundreds of supporters who trooped to the Recoletos Coliseum of the University of San Jose-Recoletos Basak Campus as he brought the Jaguars back to life then scored the winning baskets to help the team beat the gutsy Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats for an 81-76 come-from-behind victory in the quarterfinal round of the 2013 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament last night.

    Tabaloc showed his capability to lead the team to victory as he scored 13 in the fourth quarter, including five in the final 13.2 seconds that helped USJ-R climb back from a 17-point deficit to grab a ticket to the semifinal round. Read More
