THE Southwestern University Cobras kept their record clean while extending the misery of the defending champions University of the Visayas Green Lancers following a clinical 71-58 victory in the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) collegiate basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum last night.
The UV Baby Lancers however made up for the loss of the college squad as they made history being the first team to totally shut down an opponent in an entire quarter on its way to score one-sided 142-36 win over the hapless Don Bosco Technological Center Greywolves in the high school match earlier. THE University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) used its huge height advantage against the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats for a 73-59 first win in the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundaiton Inc. (Cesafi) Basketball Tournament held at the Cebu Coliseum Tuesday evening.
Later at 6:45 p.m., last year’s finalists University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers and league leaders Southwestern University Cobras will take on each other after the juniors division match between the UV Baby Lancers and the Don Bosco Technological Center Greywolves at 5:15 p.m. (READ MORE)

Limpag: Cesafi shoots its foot for humanitarian reasons?
A DAY before the new season could start, Cesafi got itself in a controversy with the entry of SWU’s Bendly Valdor as a replacement for Justin Aboude, who was discovered to have a heart ailment.
His entry came after the deadline, and that’s where the latest problem lie. Rival coaches contend Valdor shouldn’t be allowed to play as he didn’t go through the screening process and the replacement happened after the deadline. (READ MORE)

LAST year’s high school semifinalists took their opponents by storm and posted dominating wins in the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Cebu Eastern College Dragons rebounded from a debut loss with a 77-44 mastery over the Don Bosco Technological Center Greywolves; the University of the Visayas Baby Lancers survived a third quarter uprising of the University of San Jose-Recoletos Baby Jaguars for a 77-64 win; and the University of San Carlos Baby Warriors rallied hard in the third to beat University of Cebu Baby Webmasters, 61-49. Valdor starts to shine
AFTER a scoreless debut, American Bendly Valdor showed his potentials after scoring 15 points to lead the Southwestern University Cobras to an 82-68 win over the smaller Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats in the main game of the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. Basketball tournament Thursday evening at the Cebu Coliseum.
Valdor, who was in the middle of controversy this week after he was allowed to play despite coming in beyond the deadline, flashed his athleticism and high-leaping ability that gave the Cobras’ starting center enough time to rest. (READ MORE)

THE University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers got their momentum halfway into the game to beat the Cebu Eastern College Dragons, 92-65, and score their first win in the high school division of the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum last night.

THE Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Board justified the decision of Commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy Jr. to allow American Bendley Valdor to play for the Southwestern University Cobras as replacement for Cameroonian Justin Aboude in the 2014 Basketball tournament.
After hours of deliberation and review, the Cesafi board junked the protest of the University of San Carlos, and any team planning to contest the decision of Tiukinhoy allowing Valdor to see action despite coming in late and beyond the deadline set by the league. (READ MORE)
