    One more to go!

INSTEAD of his usual starters, Southwestern University Cobras coach Raul Alcoseba tweaked his starting line-up to gain the momentum early as the small but faster lineup caught the University of San Carlos Warriors, 60-49, to move a win away from clinching the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) College basketball title.

Meanwhile, the University of the Visayas Green Lancers beat the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars, 56-55, win to grab the Vis-Min Qualifier slot to the 2014 Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) Elite Eight on Nov. 13-17 in Cebu City. (READ MORE)

Pages: A letter from Boy Tiukinhoy

I RECEIVED an email at 1:44 p.m. yesterday. The sender? He’s the CEO of Virginia Farms, Inc. But his message did not pertain to The Pork Shop (their retail store) or how VFI can supply us with quality meat; it was all basketball talk.

Felix Tiukinhoy, Jr. is the commissioner of Cesafi. Spelled in full, that’s the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. Since the league started in 2001, one man has stood on top of the organization, receiving neither large salary nor high praises in this thankless job. In full, I reprint Tiukinhoy’s letter: (READ MORE)

Limpag: What’s wrong with Cesafi schedule?

FIRST it was the football tournament. Now basketball, too?

Had the original schedule in football pushed through, the finalists of the Cesafi football tournament would have played back-to-back matches in two days, something that’s uncalled for in a tournament whose members just belong in one area. (READ MORE)

    SWU takes lead

THE Southwestern University Cobras showed they are the hungrier team as they drew first blood against the University of San Carlos Warriors, 59-55, in Game 1 of the best-of-5 championship series for the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) College Basketball title last night in the Cebu Coliseum.

With barely 21 hours to go before Game 2, USC needs to quickly address the things that killed them in Game 1—poor spacing especially on fast break, lack of outside shooting, disorganized offense and the minor injuries of its key players. (READ MORE)

THE Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles wasted a 24-point lead, then parried the blows of the University of the Visayas Baby Lancers with excellent plays in the final minutes to win the deciding Game 3, 72-66, and the best-of-3 finals series of the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) High School Division Basketball title yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.
