    Bendley leads Cobras

AMERICAN Bendley Valdor had another break out game to lead the Southwestern University Cobras to a clinical victory over the sliding University of Cebu Webmasters, 75-36 at the final day of the first round of elimination phase of the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) collegiate basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum last night.

Valdor finished with 17 points on top of eight rebounds, a performance that gave SWU starting center Landry Sanjo extra time to rest at the bench. Sanjo proved to be the leading scorer for the Cobras as he finished with the game high 19 points. (READ MORE)

    A night of wipeouts

THE Southwestern University Cobras kept their record clean while extending the misery of the defending champions University of the Visayas Green Lancers following a clinical 71-58 victory in the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) collegiate basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum last night.

The UV Baby Lancers however made up for the loss of the college squad as they made history being the first team to totally shut down an opponent in an entire quarter on its way to score one-sided 142-36 win over the hapless Don Bosco Technological Center Greywolves in the high school match earlier. AFTER a scoreless debut, American Bendly Valdor showed his potentials after scoring 15 points to lead the Southwestern University Cobras to an 82-68 win over the smaller Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats in the main game of the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. Limpag: UV shows it’s not over till fat lady sings

A DAY before Game 3 of the college basketball finals, I told Superbalita sports reporter Erwin Lirazan that it seems former champion University of the Visayas was out of it, what with the odds stacked against them. Not only did UV lose to the Southwestern University five straight times this season, the Lancers also lost two key players going to Game 3.

Surely they couldn’t beat those odds? (READ MORE)

Pages: SWU vs. UV: Best ending for Cebu fans

HISTORY repeats itself, the cliche goes. After four games in the Cesafi Finals, it’s two-all. Last year, the ending reached Game 5. That was Oct. 9. Today — 10-3-2013 — it’s happening once more: UV-SWU in one game that will end Season 13.

The funny thing is, Cebu is the same as Manila. While Cesafi is contesting the final, the UAAP best-of-three is being played at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. And, if you examine the four squads involved, they’ve got something in common: La Salle and UV are color green; UST and SWU are color gold. With the UAAP, it’s their 76th season (ours is the 13th — but prior to that we had the CAAA). Another difference: our Finals is best-of-five while theirs, surprisingly, is a short 2-out-of-3. Which teams will win the gold? Tan-awon nato. Abangan. (READ MORE)

    UV eyes equalizer

DERAILED for the first time, the Southwestern University Cobras will try to complete their unfinished business as they go all-out to secure their second Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc.
