    Limpag: Cesafi shows it means business

    THE Cebu Institute of Technology-University basketball teams found out that the Cesafi really meant it when it said players with no ECG tests results won’t be allowed to play. The high school and basketball team lost their first game even without taking a shot after the commissioner had them defaulted against the University of the Visayas.

    For the Cesafi officials, they mean business when it comes to this requirement and I think it’s a rigid rule that should be followed.

    THE Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles opened its title retention campaign on a bright note, pulling a clinical 68-55 win over the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Baby Panthers in the High School Division of the 2015 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Basketball Tournament last night at the Cebu Coliseum.

    Recruit Errol Pastor proved his worth as an addition as he blended well with coach Rommel Rasmo’s holdovers and led the scorers of the defending champions with 13 markers. (READ MORE)

    HIGH school defending champions Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles will make their debut against the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Baby Panthers in the 2015 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball season at the Cebu Coliseum.

    Likewise, the comebacking USPF Panthers will also make their debut in the college division against the University of Cebu Webmasters in the main game at 6:45 p.m. (READ MORE)

    THE University of San Carlos Warriors wasted an 18-point lead before going full throttle in the final seven minutes of the game to beat defending champions Southwestern University Cobras, 76-64, in the 2015 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.

    Meanwhile, Cesafi showed it means its “no-medical/ECG certificate-no play rule” when they had the high school and college teams of the Cebu Institute of Technology-University forfeit their games in favor of University of the Visayas. (READ MORE)

    WILY forward Froilan Mangubat proved that high school basketball is worth paying attention to as he logged the first double-double of the season to lead the University of Cebu Baby Webmasters to a 54-49 win over the University of San Jose-Recoletos Baby Jaguars in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Season 15 at the Cebu Coliseum yesterday.

    Meanwhile, a little mix-up happened in the awarding of the Miss Cesafi 2015 High School Division. Marianne Sinajon of Southwestern University was announced as the first runner-up of the high school competition.(READ MORE)

    UNIVERSITY of the Visayas head coach Gary Cortes aired his frustration when his team captain Raffy Octobre was disqualified from the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. for academic deficiencies.

    “I was so disappointed to find out that Raffy is not qualified (to play in Season 15) because he lacked the required units during the second semester. Had I known about it earlier, I would not have included him in our pre-season tune-up games and tournaments. What’s the point of keeping a player who cannot help when he is needed?” Cortes told Sun.Star Cebu.(READ MORE)

    DEFENDING champions Southwestern University and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu suffered major blows in their title retention campaign in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. after the loss of key players.

    The Cobras, the college defending champions, will have to play without veteran big men Bernie Bregondo, Daryl Goloran and Rey Mark Acuno and Congolese Mupungo Buko, while the Magis Eagles won’t have Joshua Sinclair and Jeremy Nacua in the team this year.(READ MORE)

  • Cesafi urges coaches to attend safety seminar

    THE Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) scheduled a two-day refresher course for its referees on July 25 and 26 at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Gym from 8 am to 5 p.m.

    Cesafi Commissioner Felix O. Tuikinhoy Jr. issued a directive to the league-accredited referees and officials to attend the event, which will be conducted by the country’s top referee consultant Romy Guevarra. (READ MORE)

    5 Cesafi teams join Bogo tourney

    RESIDENTS of the northern part of Cebu, especially the people of Bogo City, will get the first glance of the teams and players of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Season 15 set to start on Aug. 1.

    Five of the seven collegiate teams—the University of San Carlos Warriors, University of the Visayas Green Lancers, University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars, University of Cebu Webmasters and the comebacking University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers—are competing in the Bogo City Mayor’s Cup Cesafi Pre-Season Basketball Tournament, which will start on July 11.
