    THE University of the Visayas Green Lancers will play their final elimination round game tonight, hoping to secure the second spot in the collegiate division of the 2013 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

    In the opening game, the struggling Cebu Eastern College Dragons (4-2) will try to regain their poise as they face the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Baby Panthers (3-3) at 5 p.m.

  • Reroma issues apology

    UNIVERSITY of San Carlos Baby Warriors head coach Britt Carlo Reroma has issued an apology to Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy and to the rest of the board.

    In a letter dated Aug. 23 to Cesafi president Fr. Manny Uy SJ, of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, Reroma expressed his apology to the board and to Tiukinhoy for trying to field a player whose eligibility was under question.

    Earlier, Tiukinhoy asked the board in his incident report and recommendation letter to suspend Reroma for one year for putting the league and its members in a bad light, a violation stated in Paragraph 3.5 of Section F of the Amended Rules and Regulations of Cesafi.

    THE University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters were relentless on defense and consistent in offense. They made it to the winner’s column at the expense of the University of Southern Philippine Foundation (USPF) Panthers, following a masterful 80-67 victory in the 2013 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum last night.

    Power forward Kenneth Niones delivered 20 points, on top of seven rebounds and two assists, while shooter Kim Gomez finished with 20, two rebounds, three assists and four steals to help the two-time champions pick their first victory of the season.

    NINE-TIME champion University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers wasted a 23-point lead then survived repeated rallies to beat the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, 77-63, and secure solo second place in the 2013 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum last night.

    Reigning Rookie/MVP Hernal “Wowie” Escosio and crafty guard John Abad prevented the Haier-backed Lancers from breaking apart when the Warriors turned a seemingly lopsided
    game into a close one.

    IF THERE are still those who doubt them, defending champion Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras proved them wrong after a 79-58 rout of the young University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars to score their fifth straight win in the 2013 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum last night.

    In the high school matches, defending champions Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles picked their seventh straight win, 79-69, over the Cebu Eastern College Dragons.

    THE University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers vented their ire on the unsuspecting University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, showing no mercy in a 106-53 bashing in the 2013 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum last night.

    UV, which suffered a frustrating, 70-66, loss to arch-rivals Southwestern University Cobras last Saturday, was as hungry as ever and employed an all-out defense to become the first team to score at least 100 points this season.

    DEFENDING champions Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras capitalized on its quickness and rebounding edge to break away from a tight ballgame in the final five minutes of the game for an 81-68 win over the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters in the 2013 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) College basketball tournament held at the Cebu Coliseum last night.

    This afternoon, the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors will try to score their second win as they play the rookie-laden University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers in the main game at 6:45 p.m.

(Cesafi) collegiate basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum last night.

    DEFENDING champions Southwestern University Cobras survived the end game scares for a 70-66 escape over archrivals University of the Visayas Green Lancers in the first sell-out game of the 2013 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum last night.

    SWU team captain Monbert Arong scored 19 points on top of five rebounds, two assists and four steals to help the Cobras stay on course for the No.1 seed as they swept aside their biggest threat for the automatic semifinal seat.

    Scott Aying not to play on Cesafi 2013

    IT’S final.

    The Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) has spoken and University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors prized power forward Scott Aying won’t be seeing action this season.

    The Cesafi executive board affirmed the decision of the screening committee to bar Aying from playing this season after their executive board meeting held at Tin Gow Restaurant at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel last Thursday night.
