    CIT-U nabs first win

    THE Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats rode on the miscues and missed shots of the listless University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers to pick their first win, 73-68, in the 2013 Cesafi College Basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum last night.

    The University of San Carlos Baby Warriors, on the other hand, showed they are a strong title contender as they defeated the erstwhile unbeaten Cebu Eastern College Dragons, 77-69.

    TEAM skipper James Regalado proved he is worthy to lead the University of San Jose-Recoletos as he was relentless from start to finish to help the Jaguars score a 70-65 win over the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters in the collegiate match of the 2013 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament held last night at the Cebu Coliseum.

    Regalado scored his team-high 18 points, including a clutch triple in the final two minutes and 20 seconds that gave the Jaguars the lead for good.

    HIGH-WIRE action resumes this afternoon as two hungry teams collide in the collegiate division of the 2013 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

    The University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars will try to regain their form as they face the University of Cebu Webmasters at 6:45 p.m. following the UC Baby Masters and the Don Bosco Technological Center Greywolves high school match at 5 p.m.

    AS expected, defending champions Southwestern University Cobras (SWU) whipped the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats with an emphatic 91-63 win in the 2013 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum last night.

    SWU team captain Monbert Arong topscored for the Cobras with 19 points as Cameroonian center Fabrice Sewei used his huge advantage in height and size to ward off his small guards on his way to score 15 points.

With his outside shots, he helped the Green Lancers weather the repeated rallies of the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars for a 91-80 win in the 2013 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament held at the Cebu Coliseum last night.

    In the high school matches, Cebu Eastern College Dragons lost a 17-point lead before surviving the repeated attacks of the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildkittens for a 72-63 win to stay unbeaten after two assignments.

    RENDELL Senining proved larger than life and worthy of the high trust rating of University of San Jose-Recoletos coach Edito Salacot, as the 16-year-old rookie guard led the Jaguars to an astounding victory, 79-66, over the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats in the 2013 Cesafi Basketball Tournament held at the Cebu Coliseum last night.

    Senining whose lean but athletic frame packed a huge heart that could lead a tattered team to victory, delivered 19 points on top of seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. (READ MORE)

    HE MAY have missed two crucial free throws in the final 33.7 seconds but Ernesto Limetares made up for it by sinking the game-winning triple in the final 4.9 seconds. He lifted the undersized University of the Visayas Baby Lancers to a 77-74 win over the University of San Carlos Baby Warriors to start the high school division of the 2013 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball competition on a high note yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.

    IN ALL likelihood, the nine-time college champion University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers in will return to Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) final this year and claim the championship trophy. The team learned a lesson from the last year’s misfortunes for being selfish, self-centered and conceited.

    The UV Green Lancers represented the Philippines in the 27th Summer Univesiade basketball tournament and suffered humiliating defeats in Kazan, Russia, against other European teams. After the nightmare in that tournament, they discovered the cause of defeats among themselves. (READ MORE)

    The retooled University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars and the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats, who lost one key player each before the season started, will start their campaigns to nab a ticket to the semifinal round in the main game at 6:45 p.m. The first game will be between the USJ-R Baby Jaguars and the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers at 5 p.m. (READ MORE)
