    THE Don Bosco Technological Center Greywolves will face last season’s runner-up University of Cebu Baby Webmasters in the 1st Mayor Teche Sitoy-Cho Basketball Tournament Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) high school division pre-season tournament at the Cordova Sports Complex.

    Aside from the Greywolves and the Baby Webmasters, the other teams in the month-long competition are defending champion Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles, the University of the Visayas Baby Lancers, University of San Carlos Baby Warriors and University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers.     AS PART of their preparations for the season, the University of Sto. Tomas Growling Tigers are set to conquer Cebu in a pocket tournament that will also involve Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) teams.

    The pocket tournament, which will be hosted by the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars, is tentatively scheduled on July 14-17 and at the USJ-R Basak Campus. (READ MORE)

    FOR the third straight year, the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters and the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R)Jaguars will open the new season of the 16th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi), which will be on its 16th season starting on Aug. 6 at the Cebu Coliseum.

    Cesafi Commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy Jr. told Sun.Star Cebu that instead of the July 30 opening of the basketball tournament, the regular season will open one week later. (READ MORE)

    WITH a 46-40 lead at the end of the third, the University of the Visayas Lancers seemed headed to an 11th title but Shooster Olago took matters into his own hands and brought the University of San Carlos Warrios back into the fight.

    After a Kiefer Lim floater made it 46-42, Olago scored 10 straight points—including a steal and a dunk–to put the Warriors up by 6, 52-46. Just like that, the Warriors, considered chokers last year, was ahead for good, and not one of them was unraveling with a six-point lead with 6:34 left to play. (READ MORE)

    OLAGO suffered difficulties in breathing, vomiting and had severe pain in the stomach and was quickly brought to the hospital a while after giving post-game interviews.

    According to sports doctor Dr. Rhoel Dejano, the head of Cesafi medical team, Olago was brought to Chong Hua Hospital by the Sambag 2 Emergency and Rescue ambulance after the Cameroonian center and the Cesafi MVP started to vomit and complained of severe pain on his stomach at the team dugout.     AS SOME observers predicted before the season started, the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors finally broke a 57-year drought after winning the 2015 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) college basketball title over the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers.

    Basketball observers based their prediction after the screening committee released the final list of qualified players for the season and 2014 champion Southwestern University was reduced to nine men, while the University of the Visayas lost two key players. (READ MORE)

    THE University of San Carlos Warriors and the University of the Visayas Green Lancers face each other in Game 5 to decide who will be the champion of the 2015 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament at 6 p.m. at the Cebu Coliseum.

    All the pre-season preparations and the hard work during the season will boil down in this final match, which will either break a 57-year title drought of the Warriors or give an unprecedented 11th Cesafi title to the Green Lancers. (READ MORE)
