    Limpag: Can underdog USC win it all?

    FOR the fifth straight year, the Cesafi basketball finals is going to a Game 5. The University of San Carlos Warriors, last year’s losing finalist, is also involved in a second straight Game 5, while the University of the Visayas Green Lancers will be in their third Game 5 in four years.

    UV lost to Southwestern Universtiy in 2012, 73-72, and got even a year later and won Game 5, 64-62. Last year, a jittery Warriors team lost Game 5, 64-49, to the SWU Cobras, which finished fourth this year. (READ MORE)

    STEVE Cedrick Akomo stayed out of foul trouble and the University of the Visayas Green Lancers played solid defense on Shooter Olago and Ian Tagapan to win Game 4, 60-52, yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum and send the 2015 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) series to a Game 5 on Tuesday.

    “We really wanted to win this game and send the series to Game 5. And they (players) wanted this win also. They played as a team and more importantly, we limited Olago and Tagapan. We gave more focus on them because they’re the very players who gave us headaches for the past three games,” UV Coach Gary Cortes told Sun.Star Cebu. (READ MORE)

    Limpag: Wanted: College basketball fans in college

    I WENT to Game 1 of the Cesafi basketball finals between the University of the Visayas and the University of San Carlos expecting to have some difficulties going into the Cebu Coliseum.

    The last time USC met UV in the finals a few years ago, there was a sizeable crowd and getting into the media row at the Cebu Coliseum was difficult. It wasn’t the case last Sunday in Game 1 as the Coliseum wasn’t packed. (READ MORE)

    THE door is open and all the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors have to do is to go all-out and claim a long overdue Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball title. However, the University of the Visayas Green Lancers will try to do their best to stop USC from closing the best-of-5 championship series today at 4 p.m. at the Cebu Coliseum.

    In the early days of the Cesafi’s predecessor – the defunct Cebu Amateur Athletic Association (CAAA), USC, earlier known as the Green and Gold Warriors, reigned supreme for two seasons in 1956 and 1958 under the tutelage of the late Juan “Dodong” Aquino. (READ MORE)

    THE University of San Carlos Warriors moved a win away from clinching their first-ever Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) college basketball title after beating the University of the Visayas Green Lancers, 87-76, in Game 3 to lead the best-of-5 championship series 2-1 at the Cebu Coliseum last night.

    THE University of the Visayas Green Lancers worked harder to dictate the tempo of the game from start to finish to even the best-of-5 championship series with a 70-63 win over the University of San Carlos Warriors in Game 2 of the 2015 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Collegiate Basketball Finals at the Cebu Coliseum last night.

    The variety of defense that coach Gary Cortes brought into the game helped them minimize the production of Shooster Olago in the first three quarters before the Cameroonian center broke loose and scored 11 points for the Warriors in the fourth quarter, just as UV was enjoying a 22-point lead early at the start of the payoff period. (Cesafi) high school finals yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.
